David Sellery

What is your favorite food?
Pizza — especially when shared with family or friends.

What is your favorite book?

T. S. Eliot’s Four Quartets. I have also always loved Homer and J.R.R. Tolkien.

What is your favorite movie?

Star Wars — especially the original trilogy.

Who are your favorite saints?

  • St. Peter
  • St. John Henry Newman
  • St. Thomas More.

Peter for his imperfect but steadfast love of Christ, Newman for his search for truth, and More for his courage and fidelity.

What is your favorite verse in Scripture?
“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.” — John 6:68–69

What is your favorite thing about Jesus?
His mercy and the persistence of His call. Jesus meets us where we are, but He never leaves us there. He continually calls us more deeply into conversion, love, sacrifice, service, and friendship with Him.

What is your favorite thing about being Catholic?
The Eucharist, and the gift of belonging to a Church that is both ancient and universal. I spent much of my life in the Anglican tradition and remain deeply grateful for all that formed me there. Since becoming Catholic, I have experienced more deeply the way faith, sacrament, and service belong together. My work with the Order of Malta has made that especially real through hands-on service to the sick and the poor, where faith is lived not simply in words, but in caring for Christ in those we are privileged to serve.
