Dear brother in Christ,
I have no agenda for your life, other than the will of God.
I am not here to get you to sign anything. I am not trying to force you to do anything.
Your freedom is sacred.
My job is to help you discern how God is asking you to serve Him. You are called to something - sainthood, holiness, greatness. Is it as a priest of the Archdiocese of Hartford? A husband and father? I don't know but I can help you find out. Call me and let's discern together. I work for you.
I first felt the call to priesthood when I was 15 years old. I didn't enter seminary until I was 29. For 14 years, I tried to find happiness in the world, apart from God's will.
Spoiler alert, brother: it doesn't exist. There is no happiness in this life apart from God's will for our lives.
Whatever you are afraid of, I've felt it. Whatever doubts you had, I've had them. Whatever lies you are believing about yourself or the priesthood, I've been there too.
Your vocation is not a spiritual jigsaw puzzle that you have to figure out. It's a gift to be received.
Here's the beautiful, simple logic of why you should call me right now and set up our first discernment meeting: by the time we are done discerning together you will have clarity about what God is asking you to do with your life.
And then, whatever your vocation is, you can start living it.
The most illogical thing would be to do what I did - wait, delay, protest, make counteroffers. 14 years. Don't do what I did and try to avoid your destiny.
If you're like me, the only thing holding you back right now is fear. Fear of sacrifice, fear of what other people think, fear that God will not be enough.
I get it, brother. That was me for 14 years - living in fear. I invite you, right now, to be bold. To be brave. To call me. To trust that God's will for your life will surpass what you could ever possibly expect or imagine. Don't avoid the happiness which comes from surrendering to God's perfect plan for you.
In our discernment meetings, we will pray together. We will listen for God together. We will get to know each other. I will put together a customized prayer program for you, one that works for your real, everyday life. I will help find you a spiritual director. We will take an honest look at your life at see what's working and what's not working.
My dear brother in Christ, I must tell you: the priesthood is not for the faint of heart. It is a life of adventure, of sacrifice, of bravery, of complete self-gift, of total abandonment to God.
Do not be afraid. Do not listen to any lies which are flaring up right now. Do not put your trust in yourself, in your weakness and sins. Put your your trust in the mercy of God. Put your trust in the power of God. Put your trust in the unconditional love of God.
If He is calling you, He will make a way for you.
Call me and let's find out.
